Empowering Women Through Sustainable Entrepreneurship

Kilns Community Based Organization (CBO) Kenya partners with rural, women-led community groups in western Kenya’s Kakamega Forest region to drive economic growth built on forest conservation and environmental sustainability. Kakamega Forest is recognized as an Important Bird Area and is a candidate for UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

Our goal is to support projects for "real and permanent good," to quote Andrew Carnegie.

Since our founding in 2013 we have grown to work across 8 women-led community group partners. We have enabled 16 community projects starting from fuel-efficient clay stove liner production to kiln constructions, clay stove mould purchases, pottery making, workshop and storage shed construction, borehole drilling and rainwater tank installations as rural communities start to feel the impact of climate change.

As we grow we plan to onboard new community partners, enable bee keeping initiatives and installation of clean energy water pumps and grain mills to further expand our project and partner portfolio.

Our focus remains on continued support for women-led rural economic growth, forest conservation and sustainable enterprises.
